Press Release • August 19, 2020
Redwood City, Calif. – August 19, 2020 – Alation Inc., the data intelligence company, today announced that it has been named to the Constellation ShortList™ for Metadata Management, Data Cataloging & Data Governance in Q3 2020. The name of the ShortList this year has evolved to reflect the broader metadata management demands of enterprises to successfully pursue digital transformation initiatives. The Constellation ShortList is determined by client inquiries, partner conversations, customer references, vendor selection projects, market share, and internal research.
“While plenty of data catalog products have emerged in the market, leading organizations recognize the need to unite the technical and business contexts of data and related assets and to address data governance requirements,” said Doug Henschen, VP and Principal Analyst at Constellation Research. “This broader need led us to rechristen our ‘Data Cataloging” ShortList as the ‘Metadata Management, Data Cataloging and Data Governance ShortList.’ The leading vendors included on this updated Shortlist can help organizations meet a more holistic set of data-related challenges.”
Additionally, Alation customer Cisco, a worldwide technology leader, has been named a finalist in the prestigious 2020 Constellation SuperNova Awards in the digital safety, governance, and privacy efforts category for their implementation of Alation. Finalists were selected based on the use of technologies and policies to manage how personal information is used, strategies for effective compliance, and best privacy practices. Many customers including Cisco have relied on Alation to deliver high-quality governed data to the enterprise at scale.
“We are excited that Constellation’s ShortList has evolved to include metadata management, data catalogs, and data governance in one category as they should go together like Harry, Ron, and Hermione of Harry Potter,” said Satyen Sangani, CEO and co-founder of Alation. “Alation’s enterprise customers have complex data environments and have long believed that the catalog is the platform for metadata management and data governance.”
Voting for the Constellation SuperNova Awards is now open to the public. Polls close in a few short weeks on Sept. 4. Vote for Cisco here.
