REDWOOD CITY, Calif. – Aug. 5, 2015 – Alation, Inc., the data intelligence company, today announced that the World Economic Forum has selected it as a 2015 Technology Pioneer. This award is presented to today’s most innovative companies that have a significant, worldwide impact on business and society, and who demonstrate sustained potential as a long-term market leader with strategic plans for future development and growth.
“Data is everywhere, but the vast majority of people can’t benefit from data analysis – either they can’t find data when they need it, or they don’t understand how to analyze it effectively,” said Satyen Sangani, co-founder and CEO of Alation. “Being named a World Economic Forum 2015 Technology Pioneer validates our dedication to enabling a new age of data literacy. In the same way that LinkedIn enabled everyone to be a recruiter and that Amazon enabled everyone to share knowledge on products, Alation was founded to empower every user to become a data analyst.”
The Technology Pioneers were selected from among hundreds of applicants by a committee of 68 academics, entrepreneurs, venture capitalists and corporate executives. The committee based its decisions on criteria including innovation, potential impact, working prototype, viability and leadership. Past recipients include Airbnb (2014), GitHub (2014), Kickstarter (2012), Dropbox (2012) and Google (2001).
“We’re glad to see a data accessibility company make it to the selection,” says Fulvia Montresor, head of Technology Pioneers at the World Economic Forum. “Alation is part of a group of entrepreneurs who are more aware of the crucial challenges of the world around them, and who are determined to do their part to solve those challenges with their company.”
